EV Market Overview

For years, the EV market has seen a steady upward trajectory, calling for more manufacturers to produce electric-powered vehicles. Brands like Honda, Ford, KIA, Nissan and Volkswagen are following in Tesla’s footsteps with goals to develop fully electrified lineups in the next five years.

The market is predicted to reach $561.3 billion by the end of 2023. On this trajectory, experts estimate that electric vehicle sales will reach a total of 17.1 million vehicles by 2028, with more than 30 million expected to be on the road by 2030. To keep up with these flooding demands, experts believe the United States will have to increase the number of accessible charging stations by eight times the current amount.

FAQs

Take a look at some of the most frequent EV charging station questions we receive.

Why Is EV Charging Infrastructure Important?

Gas-powered vehicles are the largest contributors of greenhouse gases in the U.S., totaling 29% of all emissions produced. Because of this, the U.S. has set a goal of achieving a net-zero emissions economy by 2050 to create a healthier and more sustainable environment. Electric vehicles are the final puzzle piece to accomplishing this goal, but they are nothing without the right charging infrastructure to support them.

Charging stations allow battery-powered vehicles to operate successfully, letting drivers conveniently fuel up on the road. As the EV market continues soaring, the need for more charging stations at rest stops, shopping malls, offices and parking lots is closely behind. Closing the gap with expertly designed and installed EV charging stations will unlock endless possibilities.

What Are the Main Types of EV Charging Stations?

There are three popular types of EV charging stations, including:

  1. Level 1 Charger: Level 1 chargers come with all EV purchases, easily plugging into the wall at home to charge at two to five miles per hour.
  2. Level 2 Charger: You’re most likely to encounter Level 2 chargers when shopping or at your workplace. They can charge at a rate of 10 to 20 miles per hour with a voltage of 240 volts.
  3. Level 3 Charger (DC Fast Charger): DC chargers are often used within multifamily or commercial locations to facilitate longer-distance driving and can charge up to 250 miles within an hour.

Are There Any Incentives in New England?

Check out some of the available financial benefits when installing an electric vehicle charging station layout in New England:

  • Massachusetts: The Massachusetts Electric Vehicle Incentive Program supplies eligible entities with coverage for up to 60% of the hardware and installation costs of Level 2 EV charging stations, totaling up to $50,000 per address.
  • Maine: The Maine Department of Transportation has allocated $8 million to support the expansion of charging stations throughout the state.
  • New Hampshire: The New Hampshire Electric Co-op (NHEC) offers incentives of up to $5,000 to NHEC commercial and municipal members for two Level 2 or larger charging stations.
  • Connecticut: Connecticut provides commercial organizations with incentives between $20,000 and $150,000 for installing Level 2 and Direct Current Fast Chargers (DCFC) at multifamily, public and workplace facilities.
  • Rhode Island: Under the Rhode Island Energy EV Charging Station Incentive, commercial customers can receive rebates covering 100% of installation costs for Level 2 and DCFC stations within workplaces, businesses, apartment complexes, universities and medical facilities.
  • Vermont: Governments, businesses, nonprofits, homeowners associations, electric utilities and EV charging equipment providers can receive up to $100,000 for installing Level 1 and 2 chargers in multi-unit dwellings and workplaces.
